post keys are for storing data for each post. tournament brackets is a good example. each post key stores all of the bracket data that gets displayed.
message is just like a post key, except for private messages. I dont have any examples for that, but you get the idea.
conversation is just like a thread key, except in private messages. Urgent PM plugin uses a conversation key to flag the discussion.
