So, there's no official way to disable PM's, the unofficial way is to set the minimum post count for PM's to 9999999999 (etc.). However, a problem arises if a user has already created a PM. In this case they are allowed to reply to it. Seeing as there is no easy nor reliable way to delete all PM's from a board, would it be permissible to monitor the sending of PM's via a code? Using the yootil library, one could easily check via the "just sent PM" event (assuming it's still there) whether the user sent a PM to a none staff member and then update a global key to notify the moderators of the guilty user. Would this be permissible?

Couldn't you just remove the PM submit button in templates?
the only way you would be able to monitor the pm itself would be to create a popup window alerting the user that any messages they send the recipient name will be saved, that also saves their message recipient before they can click the submit button. Noting that wouldn't work on mobile. And it would have to be deemed as not malicious by a staff member. Other than that it's not defined in the proboards guideline that you can't read a members messages.

Well, I don't plan on reading the PM. Just who it's being sent to. As for the pop up and mobile, I was already aware but thanks. I think I'm going to wait for an official-ish answer because I don't want to get in trouble. I know the TOS doesn't specifically say no, but it might be considered invasion of privacy or something so...

Hi,
Using the Yoontil plugin in this manner would be permitted, however telling a user that you're able to read their PM's or implying that you can read/save them or anything else is a huge ethical violation that I am firmly against.

That was the gist I was getting, however he said he only wants to save the recipients name of all messages, not anything personal. Would that be fine?

Awesome. Thanks guys. Yeah, I never would read anyone's PM's, regardless of whether they were disobeying the rules, it's still technically private and I have no business doing that.
