Hi, I just wanted to share another modern idea/feature (along with the other two ideas which were "feeding threads", and "thread tags").
Being able to follow categories/boards/sub-boards, would also be super useful, and help forums to become more popular.
For example, let's say that a forum has many categories and boards (let's imagine a category for every music genre, and a board for every band in that genre). It would be great if users could simply "follow" the categories and boards that they care about. The way this could work, might be to click a button to set your following, and check-boxes would appear next to every category and every board. If you check a categories box that will also check every boards box inside that category. As well as a global check box to check or uncheck all boxes.
Then after they've done that, there would be buttons/tabs at the top of the forum labelled "[All] [Following]". If they select "Following" then the forum would start hiding all of the categories and boards that the user doesn't care about (the ones they're not following). And have the forum remember the button pushed for the next time they come back.
This would help reduce the list considerably, and make the forum feel much more customised to the users liking. If combined with the "feeding threads" feature, the thread feeding would also only feed threads from the boards you're following. It would also allow forum makers to make their forums much larger.
Please also add this to V6!
